Midnight Cowgirl

I made a new shirt the other day. Get your sunglasses on...this is a zesty one.

When I was very young, my mom made lots of these western-style shirts. There are photos of my brother and I as toddlers, wearing matching cow-person gear (shirts and jeans for him, dresses for me). I even had some barbie clothes made of the scraps of calico. I still have one of the shirts she made for my dad, a nice little number made of two coordinated sprigged calicos. It's one of my favorites (though it is almost as old as I am, it is holding up pretty well).

Man, all those little shirt details are fiddly. The shirts I usually make for the husband are more Eastern-style...I had forgotten how fiddly cuff plackets and such are. It was worth it, though...this is a great shirt. I will definitely make more, preferably with super-fantastic embroidery.

I'm kind of on a snap kick...first the spats, and now this snapshirt phase. Sewing was my first real thing, long before I ever figured out what to do with knitting needles or a crochet hook. I'm still knitting here and there, but it is so warm here most of the time that it isn't really inspiring me (except to knit for people who live in colder places :).

One last gratuitous orange and blue photo...

Awesome piping, and nicely matched plaids. Does it have a fancy yoke on the back? I'm also fond of the gingham shirts with the yokes done on the bias. Quite classic cowboy.

Your shirt totally rocks! Yeeehaw!

It's cute! I used to sew up cowboy shirts for the exes. I made one for my dad but unfortunately when I sized it up for him I didn't factor the neckline properly. It was humongous. It did make a fabby bathrobe for a long time.
